History | In 1983, the Optimem company worked with 3M Corp. to develop optical media for its product line. In 1986, 3M bought shares in Optimem (located in Sunnyvale, California). Optimem was an early producer of high-performance optical storage disk drives. From the 1985 manual: "The Optimem 1000 is the first in a family of optical drives using nonerasable laser technologhy to read and write digital data." WORM means "write once, read many times." |
Description | Gray plastic. Flat rectangle. One end has "side 2" and "3M" on it; the other end is the edge that is inserted. It has slanted sides, ridges, and green slides (one is write protect with button). The flat sides are labeled "side 1" and "side 2" with the serial number and the part number 80-9550-0839-8. One flat side has a label with the serial no. written on it and five step instructions in images. The other side has instructions in Japanese, French, and German, along with temperature requirements and "Optical Recording Project/3M." |
