History Dr. Joseph E. Rall served as Scientific Director of NIAMD and NIDDK, and for the NIH. He became the first NIH Deputy Director of Intramural Research. This rule has 27-31 scales and the number of digits appropriate to the scales is shown. There are two full length square root scales and three full length cube root scales. The lettering enables the log-log scales to be doubled. The "ES" in the name means "eye saver yellow" and the "N" means "new" with an improved cursor design and square corners. Pickett dropped the Eckel name in 1949-50, but the logo dates from 1958-1962.
